(40% new oak and aged for 15 months on its lees): Light gold. Vibrant citrus, mineral and floral scents are complicated by subtle mineral and smoke nuances. Sappy, deeply concentrated lemon and pear flavors are brightened by juicy acidity and given a firm edge by chalky minerals. Shows very good power on the long, energetic finish, which repeats the mineral and floral qualities. All of this fruit came from 29-year-old vines in the Charles Heintz vineyard.

The 2010 Chardonnay Isobel Charles Heintz Vineyard is racy, elegant and perfumed. The long growing season yielded a focused wine that nicely balances richness and minerality. Hints of dried apricots, pears, light floral honey and herbs add complexity in the bright, focused finish. Here, too, there is a touch of botrytis that adds complexity. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020.

Richly layered, offering tropical fruit, bubble gum and ripe apple, this is slow to unravel but gets better with every sip, ending with a dash of smoky oak.
