Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | 97

The 2010 Proprietary Red Paradise Hills Vineyard (84.1% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.4% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot; 14.5% alcohol; pH 3.8) is more reserved than the 2009, but it reveals enormous promise. A dense plum/purple color is accompanied by hints of charcoal embers, camphor, incense, licorice and exceptionally pure quantities of creme de cassis, blackberries and smoky barbecue. Deep with superb concentration and a massive mouthfeel, but no sense of heaviness or astringency, this exceptionally pure 2010 can be enjoyed over the next 25-30+ years.

Shows a Bordeaux-like restraint, with well-built, slow-to-open flavors of dried currant, herb, cedar, pencil lead and tobacco leaf. Gripping tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

About This Producer

Located in the western hills of Yountville, in the foothills of the Mayacamas range, Blankiet shares a founding date with Arietta. In 1996, the husband and wife team of Claude and Katherine Blankiet, with the aid of viticulturist David Abreu, and winemaker Helen Turley, created a stable of wines that validate the extraordinary terroir of their 16 acres of vineyards. The first eight vintages were made by Turley, but now the winemaking team consists of consulting oenologist Michel Rolland and winemaker Martha McClellan-Levy.
