International Wine Cellar
Author: Josh Raynolds
Issue: Issue 163
Bright ruby-red. Lively, spice-accented aromas of red berries, cherry, rose and cola. Sappy and precise, offering vibrant raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of allspice. Finishes with firm grip and sharply focused cherry and Asian spice qualities. This wine's tension suggests that it will reward patience.

Corresponding to 70% of what Shea estate-bottles, its roughly 4,000 cases representing 17 different slices of the vineyard ' old vines, young vines, and multiple vine selections ' the 2010 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard initially conveys a surprisingly Cote-Rotie-like impression of bacon and violets mingled with fresh ripe cherry. Texturally polished and infectiously juicy, this projects a Pinot-typical palate personality, and finishes with subtle smokiness and sappy, ripe, but in no way superficially sweet fruit. It should be worth following for at least the better part of a decade and will probably open up and display greater complexity after another 2-3 years.
