Bright ruby-red. Superripe but fresh aromas of cassis, plum and chocolate. Broad, sweet, rich and generous, offering considerable early appeal to its dark berry and chocolate flavors. Pliant and utterly seductive today, finishing with lush, sweet tannins. This is delicious today in a rather full-blown way, and should offer pleasure for at least the next 15 years.

Another extremely dark blackish crimson Margaux. Lifted nose and very sweet and sumptuous. Extremely caressing in terms of texture. Wine as massage. But with lots of tannins hidden in there underneath. So much pleasure in store... Though pretty alcoholic!

The wine hits all cylinders in 2010. The average alcohol for the bottled wine is 14%. It has a gorgeously sweet nose of creme de cassis, spring flowers, subtle barbecue smoke and charcoal followed by full body, beautiful intensity, great purity, stature and length. The influence of any oak is minimal, despite the fact that 90% new French oak was used. Needless to say, this is an example of modern-styled winemaking at it's finest, and arguments that such wines will not age well, do not represent their terroir , and are soul-less, are totally groundless. Give it 5 or so years of cellaring and drink it over the following 25-30 years. This is one of the great Margaux wines of the vintage.

About This Producer

Named after its first owner, Chevalier de Lascombes, this Margaux ranked Second Growth vineyard produces powerful, tannic, yet elegant wines. Once owned by Chaix d'Est-Ange, a General to Napoleon III, Lascombes encountered a revival in the mid 20th century under the control of Alexis Lichine. Many decades later, Colony Capital bought the estate and controls the vineyard to date. Currently, the vines are comprised of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petite Verdot.

Lascombes produces a second wine, Chevalier des Lascombes, named after its original owner, with a fruitier flavor profile that requires less aging (about 5 to 10 years). The chateau also employs two second labels, Segonnes and La Gombaude, for its lesser wines.
