(15.1% alcohol; 72% cabernet sauvignon, 16% sangiovese, 6% merlot and 3% each cabernet franc and petit verdot): Good deep red-ruby color. Distinctly dark aromas of blackberry, licorice and bitter chocolate, with a slightly rustic whiff of leather. Juicy and nicely delineated, with sound acidity intensifying the flavors of dark berries and bitter chocolate. This pliant but firm wine finishes with dusty, minerally tannins and little obvious sign of the 15+% alcohol.

David Arthur's 2010 Red Wine Meritaggio Estate is drop-dead gorgeous. Juicy dark cherries, flowers, menthol and violets burst from the glass. The 2010 has quite a bit more freshness and vibrancy than the 2009. The darker tonality of fruit and overall structure here are simply compelling. This is a fabulous showing. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.
