Temptingly rich and layered, with complex mocha, plum and wild berry fruit that's spicy and aromatic. Full-bodied, gaining depth and turning ever more elegant and detailed, with tannins that give this traction.

This was my introduction to what great wine was in California when I first sold it in 1990. The iconic slender tapered bottle commands instant recognition; there are about 50 samples on the floor next to my desk and it took me about 5 seconds to find the SS. Shows a seductive, smooth nose of mixed black fruits, sandalwood and olive. The beautifully framed palate is polished and poised currant , blackberry, plum and seamless tannins.

Very full bodied and rich. Loads of black currants, blackberries, mocha and coffee. Well balanced also, with very smooth tannins and a long, long finish.

side by side with a 2008, both were very similar in aroma and palate. little fruit if any, slate on the palate with a citrus zest finish, albeit shorter than expected.
