(66% cabernet sauvignon, 10% each merlot and petit verdot, 8% cabernet franc and 6% malbec): Ruby-red. Cassis, blueberry, licorice and violet on the nose, with hints of dusty earth and leather. Lush and plump in the mouth, with a slightly medicinal character to the savory dark berry and mocha flavors. I'd peg this right between Old World and New. Nicely integrated acidity and broad, dusty tannins energize the persistent chocolatey finish. Very harmonious for this second wine.

The 2009 Altagracia is a rich, textured wine layered with perfumed red fruit. Ripe, silky tannins frame the long, exceptional finish. The 2009 impresses for its breadth and volume, all while maintaining a very classic profile. The delineation of the 2008 is missing, but in exchange readers will find a soft, supple wine loaded with class. In 2009 the blend is 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6% Malbec.
