Opaque purple. Dark berries, cherry pit and chocolate on the nose, with licorice and black cardamon nuances adding complexity. Sappy, expansive blackcurrant and cherry flavors show very good depth, with a peppery quality providing lift. Fine-grained tannins add grip to the sweet, subtly floral finish. This suave wine drinks very well right now.

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent choice for readers who want to drink a Ramey wine without waiting the decade or so it takes most of his wines to truly open up. Dark red berries, savory herbs, mint and licorice all jump from the glass. A large-scaled, voluptuous wine, the 2009 is juicy, expressive and wonderfully resonant. Layers of fruit continue to build to the rich, enveloping finish. The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is quite a mouthful! Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.

Consistently very good year after year. Dark berries, currants and a touch of oak. Smooth tannins.

Big berry punch with fine tannins and nice finesse. Delicate rather than the big bomb cab I've had from a few other 09s I've tried. I'm rating this a 91 because while very good, it didn't rival past vintages from them. I'll try another bottle in a few years. This would pair nicely with goat or game.
