Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | 93

Vivid yellow-gold. Highly perfumed aromas of orange pith, poached pear and honeydew are complicated by iodine and dusty minerals. Broad, supple and ripe, with lovely intensity to the citrus and mineral flavors. This distinctly rich but graceful chardonnay finishes with superb grip and length and resonating minerality.

As for the single vineyard wines, the 2009 Chardonnay River Block comes from a vineyard situated near the Russian River planted with old Wente and Hanzell clones. Medium to full-bodied with extraordinary minerality, abundant white peach, popcorn, pear and citrus oil notes, copious fruit, zesty acidity and a refreshing, savory style, it will provide enjoyment over the next 5-6 years.

About This Producer

With three generations of dedication to the land, Rochioli Vineyards and Winery has earned the reputation as one of Sonoma County's finest. This family legacy began in 1938, when Joe Rochioli Sr. purchased land he had long farmed. He had the foresight to know that the soil of the Russian River Valley would one day produce some of the world's greatest wines. His son Joe Jr. embraced this vision and today craft renowned, terrior-driven wines built on a foundation of superb fruit.

The result has been a decades-long tradition of outstanding vintages: Silky-smooth, fruit-forward Pinot Noirs; rich, opulent Chardonnays; and tangy, food-friendly Sauvignon Blancs.
