A highly nuanced and extremely pretty nose of dried flowers, plum, spice and warm earth marries into precise, detailed and mouth coating flavors that are blessed with ample amounts of dry extract that confers a textured mouth feel onto the impressively persistent and very firm finish. This offers the elegance of a classic Chambolle but with a certain muscle.

Medium red. Captivating aromas of tangy raspberry, sexy high-pitched spices, smoke and flowers. Juicy, dry and filigree; not a fat style but there's plenty of density to the flavors of strawberry, raspberry, minerals and chocolate. The energetic, rising finish boasts lovely sweetness and length. Vinified entirely with whole clusters--and a big success in 2008.

Black pepper, ginger, and smoked meat lend an oriental as well as slightly reductive tone to the nose of Dujac's 2008 Chambolle-Musigny Les Gruenchers, which then fills the mouth with pungently-accented ripe plum. This displays lingering grip and spice but is relatively robust and anything but an illustration of Chambolle tenderness or delicacy. (Ordinarily, Seysses would serve this cru before his Combottes, but it's easy to see why he chose on this occasion to reverse that order.) Fine, palate-saturating tannins help convince me that this demands 4-5 years in bottle and ought to perform well 7-10 years from now.
