International Wine Cellar | 90(+?)

(merlot and cabernet franc): Rich dark red. Complex nose offers very ripe, slightly high-toned aromas of plum, cherry confit, minerals, caramel, flowers and mint. Pungent and distinctive on the palate, with bright acidity framing the red fruit, red licorice and candle wax flavors. Finishes dry and a bit youthfully clenched, but the dusty tannins are nicely covered by cherry and raspberry fruit. This needs at least a few years in the cellar.

Sweet, super-ripe red berries, mint and flowers all meld together in the 2008 Amuse Bouche. This is an especially high-toned, silky wine. There is considerable richness in the glass, but at the same time the alcohol is also a bit present at times. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018.

Complex and concentrated, with black currant and olive aromas and supple blackberry, earthy clay and cedar flavors that linger toward lively tannins. Should be better with time. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best after 2012. 550 cases made.

Heidi Barrett and John Schwartz, created this joint venture, aiming for the Pomerol-style of Bordeaux. This inspired team has constructed brilliant Merlot-driven wines that rival both Napa and Bordeaux counterparts. Barrett crafts wines with the rich purity and complex charm of Merlot with a judicious dollop of Cabernet Franc. Past clients include Screaming Eagle, Grace Family and Vineyard 29 and current clients include Jones Family and Revana Family Vineyards.
