(15.2% alcohol; includes 3% petit verdot): Ruby-red. Crushed blueberry, cassis and licorice on the vibrant nose. A sweet, classy fruit bomb with terrific spicy, floral lift to the intense flavors of briary mountain berries. High-toned, high-pitched wine with a firm tannic spine for long aging. But this is also great fun to taste right now.

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful wine graced with expressive red fruit, flowers, licorice and tobacco. This mid-weight, understated wine impresses for its focus, length and fine overall balance. Floral notes round out the fleshy, generous finish.

Intense and at points rustic and chewy, full-bodied and dense, with complex, firm and tannic, giving the dark berry flavors a dry savory edge. Rambles over rough terrain, yet remains complex and alluring.

this is a wonderful Napa cab. big, bold and maybe not quite yet at the peak of its powers, but if it gets much better--watch out.

About This Producer

Riding the crest of the Mayacamas Mountain Range at an elevation of 2,100 feet, Pride Mountain Vineyards' 200+ acre property is bisected by the Napa/Sonoma county line. The family owned winery has been making some of Spring Mountain's best wines since 1990. Winemaker Bob Foley employs the laborious technique of picking, vinifying, and barrel-aging each of 80 vineyard blocks separately, resulting in the most ideal ripeness levels and blend quality. This integration of vineyard practices and winemaking art is done purposefully. The goal is wines that are bold and fruitful, and that speak of their mountain lineage. Considered by Robert Parker to belong in "the top echelon of California's quality wineries," wines from Pride's gravelly mountaintop vineyards are consistently highly rated and are a staple component of any classic Napa collector's cellar.
