(with 11% merlot and 6% petit verdot): Good full, bright ruby. Precise aromas of blackberry, minerals, menthol, cedar and slate. Supple and suave, with a slightly high-toned quality to the dark berry and bitter chocolate flavors. A real crushed-berry bomb, with good acid cut and supple broad tannins. Steve Pride noted that this wine was more aggressive in the mid-'90s; the winery introduced a gentler destemmer with vintage 2008 and is now pressing the fruit more gently. There's now less in the way of oak tannins in the finished wines, he added.

I love their Merlot. This is their Cab. Blueberry and blackbery aroma & flavor. Meidium bodied and smooth, silky tannins. Definitely not a heavy cab.

About This Producer

Riding the crest of the Mayacamas Mountain Range at an elevation of 2,100 feet, Pride Mountain Vineyards' 200+ acre property is bisected by the Napa/Sonoma county line. The family owned winery has been making some of Spring Mountain's best wines since 1990. Winemaker Bob Foley employs the laborious technique of picking, vinifying, and barrel-aging each of 80 vineyard blocks separately, resulting in the most ideal ripeness levels and blend quality. This integration of vineyard practices and winemaking art is done purposefully. The goal is wines that are bold and fruitful, and that speak of their mountain lineage. Considered by Robert Parker to belong in "the top echelon of California's quality wineries," wines from Pride's gravelly mountaintop vineyards are consistently highly rated and are a staple component of any classic Napa collector's cellar.
