(100% syrah): Rather stunted on the nose today; far less aromatic than the 2007. Then sweet, plush and slightly warm, with concentrated, ripe, smooth flavors of dark fruits and bitter chocolate. Finishes with substantial broad tannins and very good length. Extended aeration brought more smoky dark fruits and black olive. Like the 2007 version, this needs more time in bottle--or a serious decanting.

A superb wine that is deep and elegant at the same time.
Color: Red with purple tones, dark core.
Nose: Aromas of blackberry, currant, creosote, savory and fresh flowers.
Palate: Very pure and seamless. A driven wine that excels in its balance and depth that prolongs the finish. The black fruits meld well with the minerality and a seamless integration with oak. The tannin is pronounced, but this is only a baby being a 2008, those tannins should soften in time as the wine matures. ROCK solid with a rack of lamb!
Last tasted with Helen in Napa in June 2010 this wine has gained more complexity and depth.
