The 2008 Eloge is a deep, plush wine. Dark plums, black cherries, new leather and licorice are some of the notes that jump from the glass in this forward, succulent wine. Layers of fruit build effortlessly to the plush, round finish. In 2008 the blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot and 10% Merlot.

Drank with local t-bone steak. Popped and poured over three hours. First taste was good. Typical flavors for a Cali Bourdeaux blend. First hours was a little green. I noticed this with the other Eloge bottles I've tasted. This was gone by hour two. Rich red and black fruit flavors with lots of chocolate and fine tannins. This was good but not great. It was light in the mid palate and finish. Leaves you wanting more. In my opinion this will come together, but I will wait a couple of years.

About This Producer

Nestled deep in Conn Valley, east of St. Helena and the Meadowood Resort, Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyard remains an impressive, if not sometimes forgotten, source of very complex and potentially age worthy wines in Napa Valley. The vineyard produces beautifully rich, blackcurrant-flavored wines that have demonstrated stunning purity of flavor and aging potential while portraying a union of flamboyant Californian ripeness and Bordelais elegance and nuance.

Todd Anderson and winemaker Mac Sawyer initially put themselves on the map with their long-lived, estate Cabernet, but have expanded their repertoire to include Bordeaux tributes "Right Bank Cuvee" and Robert Parker-favorite "Eloge," which he calls "a distinct effort of first-growth quality."
