($38) Superripe black fruit aromas complicated by exotic peach pit and floral nuances (this vineyard has a handful of white muscat vines intermixed). Juicy but very tightly wound, with exotic but reticent dark fruit flavors lifted by peach pit and pepper. Finishes impressively long, but with serious tannins that call for at least a few years of aging. Like the Pesenti and Turley Estate examples, this should evolve nicely for at least 12 to 15 years.

The 2007 Petite Syrah Library Vineyard possesses higher acidity as well as a more closed personality. Although it is somewhat monolithic, it is clearly super-concentrated and deep. I'll reserve judgment until I have had another chance to look at it, but it will undoubtedly be top-flight in terms of quality. It just didn't sing as loudly as several of its siblings.
