Producer Notes
Domaine Tempier is located at Le Plan du Castellet. Its vineyards stretch over three different communities- Le Castellet, Le Beausset and La Cadiere. The plots of land are thus far apart and require extra work. But the soil of these different areas yield distinctive cuvees -Speciale, Migoua, Tourtine and Cabassaou - as well as interesting and complex blends for white, rose and red wines. Domaine... More »

($40) Light orange-pink color. Red berries, peach skin, smoky minerals and dried lavender on the nose, picks up peppery spices with air, which carry onto the palate and add nerve and zest to the sweet raspberry and cherry flavors. Firm and focused but far from hard, with excellent finishing grip and chewy, unflagging persistence. This has the depth and texture to handle lighter meat or rich fish dishes. Light pink. Watermelon, apple, apricot, orange peel, somewhat oxidized. Strong acidity that is well balanced with alcohol. Not sprightly, but palate cleansing.

Had never ordered or bought a Rose. So when I saw Tempier on the wine list at Joe's, I figured it would be a good example. I have no means of comparison, but I was very favorably impressed. Extremely silky and easy to quaff. No hint of tannin or acid. Not big, or forward, but so smooth and easy to drink that I can see buying this by the case and enjoying it on the deck this summer.
