($48) Opaque ruby. Pungent raspberry and blackberry aromas are complicated by minerals and dried flowers. Lively red fruit flavors gain depth in the middle palate and pick up a deeper cherry pit quality. The finish repeats the cherry note and leaves notes of licorice and smoky minerals behind. I'd give this a few more years of aging, at the least.

The dark ruby/purple-tinged 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve is one of the finest yet made by the Sabons. Deep ruby/purple with notes of root vegetables, figs, tobacco leaf, roasted meats, kirsch liqueur, and black currants, this is a broad, deep, substantial, long, heady Chateauneuf that should evolve for 15 or more years.

Agree with others on the flavors of fig and dark fruits. Drinking really well now, but just hitting its stride. Another 5-7 years plus and this should get even better.

Less fruit forward than some of the other 2007 Rhone wines so far (mostly Gigondas at this stage). Probably a little early for this, as still has an alcohol "burn." But, it has very nice fig and dark fruit flavors now.
