Burghound Author: Allen Meadows Issue: Issue 33

(from a blend of the Rosella's, Gary's and Pisoni vineyards that produced 818 cases bottled at 14.5%; $40) A notably ripe nose of sour cherry, raspberry and a hint of cranberry nuanced by very subtle spice hints gives way to rich, delicious, generous and very round medium-bodied flavors that retain a good sense of detail, all wrapped in a mildly warm but persistent finish. This is a fruit-driven but not simple or excessively suave effort that will drink well young.

Rich and concentrated, showing full-bodied, fleshy cherry, rhubarb and blueberry, with hints of black licorice, smoke and tar. Ends with a long, focused finish. 818 cases made.

Opened and decanted for thirty minutes. Initial nose of dark cherry and cleanliness, like clothes on the clothesline clean. Smooth with bright, playful cherry on the front and mid-palate with tar on the edges of the back palate showing a more mature nature. The transition between these flavors is seamless and very satisfying. Its like a reverse mullet, party up front but all business in the back. An excellent little wine, well put together. Drank with homemade pork barbecue, an unbelievable combination. The flavor and pork and Pinot are perfect for each other, melding and bring out the spice in the wine and the fatty flavors in the pork.

I challenge you to find a pinot for under $40 with as much flavor, concentration and length as this one. Kudos to Gary and Rosella!

One of my favorite ROARs ever. Bright fruit flavors but not overripe or alcoholic as some of their issues can be. A winner- great dark cherry nuances.
