($53) Dark red. Expressive aromas of red berries and cherry, with notes of smoky garrigue and dried flowers adding complexity. Spicy and pure, with an exotic floral note joining the mineral-driven raspberry and cherry flavors. Finishes smooth and sweet, with little in the way of obvious tannins. This is delicious now.

The 4,400-case blend of 80% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape boasts a dense plum/purple color as well as a wonderfully sweet nose of fresh black truffles, incense, blue and black fruits, roasted herbs, and earth. The wine is full-bodied and pure with fresh acids, silky tannins, and a voluptuous mouthfeel.

A clean, pure, rounded version, offering cherry pie, red licorice, sweet toast and pretty spice notes that are well-entwined and linger through the medium-weight finish.
