($60) Deep ruby. Sexy aromas of black raspberry, violet, olive and black pepper, plus a subtle smoky quality. Sweet, open-knit red and dark berry flavors are complicated by notes of baking spices and a hint of candied flowers. Gains weight with air and finishes with very good mineral cut and lingering, seductive florality.

The 2007 St.-Joseph exhibits gorgeous raspberry fruit intermixed with spring flowers. Medium-bodied and complex, it could easily be mistaken for a top-notch red Burgundy.

Dark, but stylish and alluring, with a whiff of espresso giving way quickly to pure black cherry, damson plum and red currant fruit that glides over fine-grained tannins. The long, iron- and violet-filled finish just sails on, with excellent precision.
