The 2007s ratchet up things. Composed of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2007 Illustration reveals sweeter fruit, more opulence and flamboyance, and plenty of spice, wood smoke, black currant, plum, and licorice notes. Already drinking beautifully, this complex 2007 should continue to evolve and provide gracious, satisfying drinking for at least 12-15 years.

As the flagship wine of Blackbird Vineyards, this Merlot-based red is inspired by the great wines of Pomerol. Opaque and dark ruby in color, the 2007 Illustration is a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Malbec. It has aromas of black cherry, toffee, chocolate, earthiness, and just a hint of mint. On the palate, it has a combination of tannins and grip which is elegantly balanced by dark berry fruit and cedar. This is certainly a wine that will be enjoyable for the next 15-20 years. If you prefer to try some sooner however, it will benefit from at least an hour or two in a decanter.
