($130) Good full medium ruby. Thoroughly ripe yet energetic aromas of boysenberry, blackberry and bitter chocolate. Big, rich and sweet, with lovely intensity and balance and an element of minerality that expands with aeration and contributes to an impression of clarity and grip. Really resounds on the very long, sweet finish. A great vintage for this wine.

Potentially even better, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon may well be the finest Cabernet Sauvignon I have ever tasted from Spottswoode. Blended with 3% Cabernet Franc, the production is small (only 2,000 cases compared to the 2,900 cases produced in 2006). This opulent wine offers up loads of blue and black fruits intermixed with licorice, a hint of lead pencil shavings, and of course, the telltale floral notes that seem to be a part of this estate vineyard. In the mouth, the wine is full-bodied, but seamless, rather exuberant and flashy by Spottswoode's standards, but so pure, deep, and rich, one gets the impression that if Chateau Margaux were making Cabernet Sauvignon in St. Helena, it might well taste like this. There is virtually no noticeable oak, given the extravagant richness of the wine, and the balance and elegance, combined with the sensational texture, power, and length, are awesome. This should be a historic Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next 30+ years.

Smooth, rich and understated, offering a subtle mix of ripe, full-bodied currant, blackberry and wild berry flavors that aredeftly balanced, with a dash of cedary dill-laced oak. This is slow to unfold, but in doing so offers great depth, concentration and complexity.

Lived up to the eRobertParker hype. Definitely needs some time though. Decanted at least 45 minutes but was still tight. Keep in mind the tightness was only on the palate with the aroma being silky smooth.
