($63) Vivid ruby. Powerful, ripe scents of red and dark berry compote, cola, licorice and fruitcake. Broad, sweet dark berry flavors show a distinctly warm, liqueur-like personality but betray no rough edges. This has put on considerable weight since last year and displays the warm side of this vintage. The finish is creamy, sweet and very long, with echoes of cassis and mulberry. For its size and volume I find it surprisingly lively.

The blockbuster 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Sixtine (55% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre from 50- to 105-year-old vines) boasts an inky/purple color as well as a sensational perfume of camphor, graphite, black currants, black cherries, licorice, and smoke. Built like a young Bordeaux with its tannic structure, this full-bodied, intensely flavored wine reveals a meaty character in the mouth. As with most vintages since 1998, the 2007 requires cellaring.

Lush and inviting, with crushed plum, currant and blackberry fruit flavors laid over velvety tannins. The long, graphite- and licorice-filled finish glides along beautifully, with solid grip in reserve.1,500 cases made.

The onslaught of 2007 Chateauneuf infanticide continues. Tasted yesterday....Audouzed @ 1:30 PM and consumed between 5:30 and 9PM. Deep , dark purplish core with a slightly pink edge. Aromas of ripe plum , mint , raspberry puree , and garrigue. On the palate this wine showed quite a bit of tannin , but as Bob would say it is stacked and packed with flavors. I got raspberry , anise , and black cherry flavors on the attack in a full weight. Clove , kirsch , dark chocolate , and provencal herbs mid palate...Black pepper , road tar , and blackberry in the long lingering finish. IMO this wine probably needs 2 more years in the bottle even for my tastes.
