($85) Green-gold. Deep, smoky aromas of pear skin, peach pit, iodine and anise, with a strong floral overtone. Sweet tangerine and pear flavors stain the palate and pick up salty minerality on the back end. Becomes richer with air, taking on pit fruit and toasted grain qualities and finishing with impressive grip and mineral thrust. This vineyard, which is situated at 2,000 feet, was planted between 1998 and 2000.

There is something about this wine that just blows me away. I think it may be my absolute favorite white wine. Bright gold color with a greenish hue. Extremely comnplex, deep, full bodied and long. Bouquet of melons, tropical fruit, very distinct note of slightly burnt popcorn. Flavors of tropical fruit and white currants. Perfect acidity and body. The flavors seem to change from from the moment you take a sip through the mid- palate and into the finish over the course of 30 or so seconds. My score may be a little high compared to a professionals tasting notes, but I just can't say enough good things about this wine and it is virtually perfect for my palate.

About This Producer

Peter Michael's estate vineyards (founded in 1982) are what make his wines truly exceptional. Sugarloaf Ranch sits high above Knights Valley in eastern Sonoma County, and from its rocky volcanic soil come Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The Alexander Mountain Estate Vineyard, above Alexander Valley, provides additional Chardonnay. All Peter Michael wines are site-driven single vineyard bottlings, whether from the estate or the limited sourced appellations. The line-up of estate wines is supplemented by a Pinot Noir from Pisoni Vineyard called "Le Moulin Rouge."
