More Vintages and Sizes of Melville - Viognier Verna's Vineyard:
Author: Robert Parker
The 2007 Viognier Verna's Vineyard may be the finest example of this varietal I have tasted in California. Extraordinary minerality and precision, despite its enormous power, are what sets it apart from most blowsy, loosely constructed Viogniers. It possesses copious quantities of nectarine, mango, and orange blossom aromas as well as a hint of lychee nuts, but it is the wine's well-delineated character that is so remarkable. Enjoy it over the next 1-2 years.

The nose is redolent of lemon cream and mineral crispness. The palate is smooth vanilla, and lemon. A very solid California Viognier.

Remarkably smooth and aromatic; great value at this price point

This wine explodes on the palate with orange marmalade, marzipan, lemon zest, honeysuckle and minerals. Greg Bewer (the winemaker) is a freekin' genius - it's as if he's created his own varietal. This has to be one of the greatest Viogniers ever bottled. Highly recommended (if you can find a bottle, that is).
