(51% cabernet sauvignon, 24% malbec, 13% merlot, 11% petit verdot and 1% carmenere) Inky ruby. Highly aromatic nose combines cassis, cherry skin, cured tobacco and smoky oak. Supple on entry, offering sweet dark fruit flavors, then tightly wound in the middle, with a sappy quality to the dark berry liqueur and smoky herb flavors. Showing a lot of exotic character right now, much of which seems oak-derived, but there's a concentrated dark fruit as well. The smoky note gains power toward the back, which shows rather suave tannins and lingers with very good intensity.

The complexity involved with this bordeaux style blend evokes perfection. THis wine is a dark dark inky purple with a light rim variation. Dark fruit and currants stretch this full bodied palate filling monster around your mouth. If you have a couple enjoy now or lay it down for 5 to 7 years and retaste.

About This Producer

Intense, balanced, and distinctive wines are produced from this sustainably farmed estate, now owned by Bill Foley. The Chalk Hill AVA, located between Russian River and Alexander Valley, is at a higher elevation than both valleys, with leaner soils. Here, winemaker Lisa Bishop Forbes uses a minimalist approach in crafting Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and red blends that have been benchmarks of the appellation for three decades.
