($52) Good medium ruby. Expressive aromas of dark berries, black plum, smoked meat and earth. Sweet, pliant and quite approachable, with a fairly plush, broad texture and modest nuance. Finishes with substantial, slightly drying tannins. The Tanbark Hill bottling represents "the least good 30 barrels out of a total of 100," according to Philip Togni, who noted that he does not sell off wine in bulk.

The gorgeous, sexy 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill offers up aromas of road tar, cedar, black currants, unsmoked, high class cigar tobacco, earth, and spice. Dense, supple-textured, and fleshy, it is already a total delight to drink, which is not always the case for a Togni Cabernet Sauvignon in its infancy.
