The star of this duo is the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, which offers up juicy notes of crushed rocks, flowers, dark berries, black currants, and earth. This elegant, medium to full-bodied Cabernet possesses both finesse and substance. Deep, pure, and rich with moderate tannins, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring, and should drink well over the following 15 years.

A tour de force Cabernet. Dense, plush, rich and concentrated, wall-to-wall flavors, with layers of black cherry, black currant, black licorice, mineral and graphite. Full-bodied and tightly wound with firm tannins, yet finishes with a mix of juicy berry and mineral flavors.

This is a really opulent wine, yet fully balanced and not over the top. Deep plum, blackberry and even blueberry aromas and flavors. It just fills the mouth with full, dark fruit. It has very good structure, with nice tannins that give it a long, long finish. Good price point also, given the overpriced market for California cabs. Tasted several times with consistent results. The winery is a great one to visit too.

Clear medium ruby in hue. Clean aromas of black cherry, cassis and hints of minerals and violets. Dry, intense palate of black and red currant, some intervening red fruit characters and oak. A medium bodied Howell Mountain cab with medium ETOH and tight tannins that do seem to grip at first but fade into the soft finish. Let this one age a bit more and/or decant.

Solid big cab. Give it 45 mins in the glass and you will be rewarded with a few layers of good fruit.
