($68) Saturated red color. Spicy nose offers a kaleidoscopic bouquet of red berries, cinnamon, clove, smoky minerals and fresh rose. Clean, sharply focused strawberry and raspberry flavors offer striking vivacity, with a racy mineral underpinning. Becomes deeper and sweeter with air, picking up candied cherry and blackberry notes and finishing with impressive lift and cut. Late-arriving tannins add structure to this suave midweight.

Chewy and extracted, with complex, understated flavors of spice, tea and dried berry. Maintains its tannic muscle.

This wine has hit its stride. Chocolate infused cherries, rasberry, with a hint of smoke. Very nice!

Opened and decanted for forty-five minutes. Initial nose of nutmeg spice, cherry cola and old-lady perfume. This wine is tight and well put together, very precise laser lined fruit. This is like an architectural drawing of a California Pinot, all of the amazing creativity of the fruit and spice are expressed in straight forward precise lines that when all put together make an excellent expression of Pinot Noir, the finished product is greater than its parts. The thing about this bottle is that it gives you the same profile from front to back, straight forward, totally balanced, well intentioned wine. Some vanilla notes develop on the nose later in the glass. Compared to the Amber Ridge we had a few nights ago, the Koplen stands heads above; wonderful, wonderful wine. Drinking extremely well right now.
