($72) Glass-staining ruby. Potent aromas of cassis, cola, olive and violet. Deep, smoky dark berry flavors stain the palate, becoming sweeter with air and gaining a strong cracked pepper quality. The violet note repeats strongly on the finish, which is broad and impressively incisive.

The 2006 Syrah Jack Robert-s Run is a 300-case cuvee that exhibits northern Rhone-like notes of roasted meats, fried bacon fat, and blue and blackberries, with hints of asphalt and pepper. It is full-bodied, opaque/purple-colored, dense, and should certainly age well for at least a decade or more.

A brilliant effort, exhibiting ripe, dense, detailed blackberry and wild berry fruit that's full-bodied, complex, concentrated and smooth-textured. Ends with a soothing mix of fruit and pleasant earthy notes.
