Good deep red. Subdued but pure aromas of strawberry and raspberry. Supple and sweet, with ripe, harmonious acidity framing the flavors of pomegranate, smoke and cinders. Finishes with noteworthy definition and grip. (This was much more successful than a rather tart sample of old-vines Morey that preceded it; Laurent assured me that the "higher-acid" portion of this cuvee would be declassified to his Tradition range.)

From an extensive cluster of parcels south of the village, notably from very old vines in the Combe d'Orveaux, Laurent's 2006 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes offers a pungent and decadent ' some might say "kinky" ' nose of fading flowers, game, smoky black tea, white pepper, and sweat. For all of the metaphoric darkness (or debauchery) suggested on the nose, this proves exuberantly bright on the palate, with abundant tart red berry fruit mingled with the aforementioned pungent elements and a somehow crystalline as well as saline mineral suggestion. The tannins here are refined, and the finish long and provocative. This should be fascinating to follow and to pair with cuisine over at least the next 5-6 years.

A stylish, silky red, sporting floral, red berry and chalk flavors. There's sweetness midpalate, countered by fine-grained tannins. Nice chalky finish.
