More Vintages and Sizes of Comtes Lafon - Meursault Goutte d'Or 1er Cru:
Author: Allen Meadows
Issue: Issue 35
Subtle touches of reduction and pain grillé frame a complex and layered nose of roasted nuts, peach, pear, anise and clove that introduces rich and very full flavors brimming with buckets of dry extract that confers a textured, indeed almost chewy character to the beautifully long and silky finish. This is not especially elegant but the depth and punch are impressive plus in the context of the vintage, this finishes quite dry.

(in tank) Brisk, slightly metallic aromas of lime, minerals and menthol. Juicy, sweet and intense; round and full but also showing more power than the Clos de la Barre. But then this has not yet been fined. There's nothing exotic or over the top about this '06.

Very mellow, round and flattering. Generous, almost peachy on the nose nut then its really firm structure and great persistence kick in to convince the taster that this is not over the top. Promises very well.

Lafon's. 2006 Meursault Gouttes d'Or displays ripe pear and apple, along with a prominent alkaline mineral character. Penetrating, bright, and overtly chalky, this finishes with a long fruit and mineral colloquy, and invigoratingly bitter hints of citrus zest and quinine. I suspect this Meursault - which Lafon was set to bottle last - can be counted on for 7-10 years of interesting bottle maturation. The 2005 - plush wine with a spine - exhibits a saline, carnal intensity that calls to mind Chablis.
