($85) Deep ruby. Alluring, highly perfumed bouquet of vivid black raspberry, blueberry and minerals, with a sexy floral overtone. Impressively precise, with sweet red and black fruit flavors braced by tangy minerality and complemented by rose, lavender and succulent herbs. The finish of this impressively balanced wine is brisk and focused, with sneaky sweetness and persistence. This is Apollo to the 2007's Dionysus.

The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape La Cuvee du Papet has a dark plum/garnet color and a rather provocative nose of sassafras, garrigue, root vegetables, kirsch, and roasted meats. The wine has some tannin to shed, but is deep, medium to full-bodied, as well as stylish and elegant.

Plush and forward, with a dusting of mocha leading the way for plum sauce, blackberry and currant fruit, all followed by coffee and spice notes on the fleshy finish. Starts slowly but puts on weight and depth in the glass, with lovely purity. 875 cases made.
