(racked and blended) Good medium red. Medicinal dark cherry, blueberry and a minty nuance on the nose. Juicy and precise, with the minty, menthol coolness giving shape to the cherry and mineral flavors. Young and quite primary, finishing with firm structure and excellent cut and length. This is 13.8% natural alcohol but I never would have guessed it.

Freshly perfumed and spicy oak, quite peppery. Dark cherry fruit. Fine dry tannins. Linear power with a hint of aromatic fruit on the mid palate. Tight and restrained. (JH)

The Bouchard 2006 Le Corton smells of violets and bitter-sweet, high-toned distillate of herbs and berries. Inner-mouth floral perfume and esterous high-tones persist throughout, and there is a cool restraint and stoniness that seem to reflect the wine's geological origins. A sinewy sense of structure is accompanied by some superficial tannic abrasiveness, which the fruit successfully rides out. I would plan on following this for 4-6 years, but ' as with so many of the wines in this collection, and indeed this whole vintage ' I'm skeptical about long-term dividends.

Pure aromas and flavors of cherry and red currant are accented by spice and a touch of earth in this firm, racy red. The fruit is locked in by the tensile structure. Its potential is revealed on the long, spicy aftertaste.

Tasting note: A reserved and relatively cool nose of wild red berries, game, underbrush and crushed herbs introduces earthy, intense and impressively broad scaled and powerful flavors that are dense, balanced and vibrant and really stain the palate on the explosively long finish that is youthfully austere.
