In the same mold, with a classic, almost Old World savory character (certainly with a Paso Robles slant), the 2006 Cuvee Cote a Cote is 40% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache and 30% Syrah. Showing the ample creme de cassis, chocolate, seared meat and licorice-driven profile that's common in this cuvee, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness and depth, yet stays lively and fresh, with no sense of weight or alcohol. Drinking beautifully now, it has silky, savory tannin on the finish, and will continue to dish out loads of pleasure through 2026.

Big, ripe and intense. Firm and muscular, with complex cedar, blackberry and wild berry fruit that's well-proportioned, ending with good length and a dash of heat. Mourvedre, Grenache and Syrah.

A succulent, mouth-watering, beautifully balanced wine. Rich, ripe red fruit with cassis and subtle graphite flavoring that quickly gives way to strawberry and blueberry fruit. Wonderfully balanced already with nice structure and a long finish. I can't recommend it enough.

About This Producer

Stephan Asseo's adventure began in 1982 with a winemaking education from L'Ecole Oenologique de Macon in Bugundy and the subsequent establishment of a small empire in Bordeaux, including Chateau Fleur Cardinal. With a true desire to be more innovative than the French AOC law would allow, Asseo gained a reputation as a maverick vigneron and set out a world wide quest for great terroir.

After searching for over a year, the St. Emilion native fell in love with the unique terroir of Paso Robles and built L'Aventure Winery to pursue his ideals as a winemaker. L'Aventure's flagship Estate Cuvee (a blend of Cabernet and Syrah) has incredible track record 94-98 point scores each vintage since 2002. Robert Parker has reported that Asseo "continues to go from strength to strength, producing a fabulous portfolio of wines that makes L'Aventure one of the bright, shining reference points for the region. This is one of the California Central Coast superstars, and the wines are worth every cent."
