(40% merlot, 40% cabernet franc and 20% cabernet sauvignon) Bright ruby. Locked up tight on the nose. Dense, fat and smoky in the mouth, with pliant flavors of musky red berries, black plum, licorice and tar. Offers lovely volume and sweetness, and the creamy texture that the pH of 4.1 would suggest. Finishes with broad, late-arriving tannins.

The 2006 Proprietary Red Lucia Abreu Vineyard (a blend of 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 25% Cabernet Franc) offers a fragrant bouquet of flowers, mocha, berry fruit, earth, and minerals. The wine is medium-bodied with good acidity, sharp tannins, and a hint of licorice.

Complex, yet approachable and quite food friendly now. (Superb with a bit of pungent French blue cheese in an endive and frisee salad.) Wonderful "chewy" mouthfeel and lovely berry and cherry notes, without any cloying sweetness. Might show even better 2 or 3 years from now.
