(from Vaulorent) A subtle trace of wood frames elegant and pure of yellow and green fruit aromas nuanced by a touch of quinine and white flower that complements well the big, rich and full flavors that possess both power and real size plus a long mineral-infused finish. This is definitely a step up relative to what Fèvre usually manages to achieve with this vineyard but, not surprisingly, it can't quite match the class of the Montée de Tonnerre. Still, this is a great '06 by any definition and it's one that will definitely repay medium term aging.

Pale color. Musky but rather reticent aromas of apricot and wet stone. Very ripe, broad and round but fresh, with a peach flavor complicated by a positive earthiness. Finishes quite full, with very good peachy persistence.

The Fevre 2006 Chablis Fourchaume ' coming entirely from Vaulorent (detached from the rest of Fourchaume and just above Les Preuses) ' exhibits striking clarity and delicacy for the vintage. Rich mushroom- lobster- and chicken stock seems to be laced with fine herbs and saline, chalky mineral stuff, yet for all of its sense of richness and sheer density this displays lovely lilt and lift throughout and a seamless, memorably long finish. It seems odd to use the 'Fourchaumeâ? designation for this wine ' even if it is better known than 'Vaulorentâ? ' since the genuine Fourchaume is detached, rather distant, distinctly different in exposure, and probably inherently incapable in this vintage of the sort of elegance and complexity that are on exhibit here. I suspect this will be worth following for a dozen or more years.

About This Producer

The Fevre family has been an integral part of the Chablis landscape for upwards of 250 years. Since the beginning, though, they have been adamant about protecting and promoting the typicity of Chablis, whose whites draw a unique and well-defined line in the sand when it comes to mineral-laden French Chardonnay. The grand crus from this estate represent the pinnacle of purity and intensity of world-class Chardonnay from France and are characterized by superb delineations of acidity, mineral, crystalline fruit and delicate floral nuance.
