Antinori's 2006 Guado al Tasso is a dark, sensual beauty imbued with the essence of black pepper, earthiness and dark fruit. Today the wine remains quite fresh and in need of further bottle age. As outstanding as the Guado al Tasso is, it doesn't quite have the level of fleshiness and depth that is found in so many wines from Bolgheri in 2006. Guado al Tasso is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Syrah.

This is racy and refined red shows intense aromas of blackberry, currant and dried flowers that follow through to a full body, with sleek, minerally undertones and superpolished tannins. Made for aging. A more refined, new style of Guado.

Very dark and opaque, easy to drink while full-bodied and long. Too "international" to my taste maybe.

Opaque, deep garnet, with long legs and slight rim variation. Clean, intense developing bouquet of black and blue fruit, floral herbs and wood spice. Dry, deep palate of cassis, plum violets and oaky smoke. Full-bodied, long finish with almost french styled integration minus the big tannins from barriques. A very satisfying blend of new and old world styles.

Fruity and velvety with depth - nice. Would definitely buy or get at restaurant

About This Producer

Although the Antinori family has been making wine for over 600 years and is steeped in tradition, they haven't been afraid to modernize production and to take an innovative approach to blending. One result is the world famous Super Tuscan "Tignanello," a blend of Sangiovese (85%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), and Cabernet Franc (5%). Marchesi Piero Antinori is the current proprietor of the estate, and was instrumental in creating Tignanello, propelling the popularity of Super Tuscans worldwide.

Antinori produces wines from the Italian regions of Tuscany and Umbria. In addition to Tignanello, some of Antinori's most well-known wines include Solaia, Guado al Tasso, Campo di Sasso, Badia a Passignano, Pian delle Vigne, and Chianti Classico. Antinori's various estates include 1,400 hectares of vineyards planted in Bolgheri, Montalcino, Orvieto, Montepulciano, and Chianti Classico, as well as the emerging locales Sovana and southern Maremma.
