($29) Yellow-gold. Musky pit fruit aromas are complicated by fresh herbs, dried flowers, nuts and smoky lees. Spicy peach and nectarine flavors offer a clinging texture and a touch of warmth, with bitter anise and pear skin lending solidity to the finish. A bit brooding today, but there's solid material here.

About This Producer

Daniel Barraud is a genius when it comes to making beautifully structured wines from the village of Vergisson, an appellation that is replete with poor soil, old vines and mineral-laden rocks. The power of this favorable terroir is translated into wines of impeccable pedigree and comportment that will please in the present and reward in the future.
