My favorite again, however, remains the 2006 Syrah James Berry Vineyard. There is just something so delineated and complex about the wines from this site. Additionally, they seem to have more acidity, yet also the enormous richness and massive fruit extract. Blackberries, cassis, truffle, charcoal, and some subtle smoke are all present in this wine, which comes closest to a top-notch Hermitage from this area of Paso Robles. Long, rich, with striking minerality, this is a blockbuster Syrah that should age effortlessly for 10-15+ years.
