Burghound Author: Allen Meadows Issue: Issue 32

(from Yorkville Highlands fruit - bottled at 14.0%) Among this group of '05s, the Weir is the star of the show with its reserved, pure and ripe nose of spicy and layered red pinot fruit that complements to perfection the rich, full and attractively textured flavors that are opulent, indeed even lush yet manage to remain focused on the extract-infused finish. A lovely effort and one that should age gracefully.

($56) Dark red. Lush blueberry and blackberry nose shows an intriguing mix of depth and lift, with a light smoky note adding interest. Suave dark fruit flavors are supported by gentle acidity and firmed by fine, silky tannins. Impressively deep and sweet on the finish, which demonstrates impressive breadth, power and precision.

The 2005 Pinot Noir Weir Vineyard is a distinctive, earthy, rustic-styled effort displaying a deep ruby hue in addition to abundant amounts of sassafras, damp earth, forest floor, sweet cherry, and steely mineral-like characteristics. Well-made but tightly knit, it will benefit from additional bottle age.

Deep ruby color, intense spicy bouquet and pallate. Less intense and lighter than Bucher vineyard. very good and would probably improve further in the bottle.
