($100) Glass-staining purple color. A huge, intensely perfumed bouquet expresses floral- and mineral-accented cassis, blueberry, plum and cherry, with a good dose of sexy oak (this saw 35% new French barriques Surprisingly fresh and energetic on the palate, with bright redcurrant, raspberry and blackcurrant flavors accented by Asian spices. Silky tannins give shape to this wine, which gains further in brightness on the long, spicy, raspberry-infused finish. Pretty dramatic stuff.

The 2005 Shiraz âÂ?Â?Roennfeldt Road âÂ?Â? ZippyâÂ?Â?s BlockâÂ?Â is sourced from one of the premier addresses in the Barossa and this wine shows why. It has a profound perfume of smoky, toasty oak, pencil lead, violets, leather, licorice, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. This leads to a shockingly elegant yet large-scaled Shiraz with a velvety-texture, layer upon layer of spicy blue and black fruits, beautiful harmony, and a 60+ second finish. Words can hardly do it justice. While it can be enjoyed now, you can bury it in the cellar, revisit it in 20-25 years, and it will still be mind-bogglingly hedonistic.
