(from Santa Rita Hills fruit, 65% new oak and bottled at 14.7%; $50) This is also notably ripe with an attractive breadth of spice and dark and blue berry fruit aromas including cola and coffee that complement the concentrated flavors blessed with ample dry extract and a nicely intense if somewhat edgy and slightly warm finish that is not at present as well integrated as it might be. There is clearly good material here but the youthful awkwardness has yet to pass.

($49) Dark red. Zesty raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by cinnamon, black cardamom and violet. The perfume built with air, gaining depth and power. Lush kirsch and blackcurrant flavors seem vaguely syrah-like, but there's excellent mineral tang keeping things in check. Finishes with impressively sweet red fruit flavors, supple tannins and striking persistence.

Wine Spectator Author: James Laube Issue: Web

Spicy, peppery wild berry aromas carry over to the palate, with firm tannins. Tight and compact, this is an austere style that's rich and full-bodied, with enough depth and complexity to merit short-term cellaring. 3,750 cases made.

It's been some time since I've checked in on this wine. It just keeps getting better. This is a fantastic pinot noir with excellent power, finesse, and balance all at the same time.

Nice, but very muted. Dark color, but lean fruit...maybe in a funny state...have enjoyed this wine many times...tonight was just okay.

Plenty of like left in this our last bottle of 05! Full of silky strawberry, cherry, a herbal/minty earthiness was detected in the nose, SS absolutely requires patience, we don't touch ours for 2-3 years from when we get our hands on them!

Ouch! My wine cooler's sensor went bad and these bottles froze! I put them in the fridge to allow slow defrosting and i drank them after a few days. The superb quality was still there! Luscious, lots of fruit but with an outstanding complexity, a beautioful aroma and a long, nice finish. I wonder whether the freezing did actually any damage...
