($75) Inky purple. Powerful, deeply fragrant bouquet displays ripe cherry and blackcurrant, with an exotic array of spices, flowers and olive. Remarkably fresh and light on its feet for such a concentrated wine, offering sweet cherry and dark berry liqueur flavors and velvety tannins. Finishes with a bright kick of red berries and outstanding persistence. This is already strikingly complex.

The 2005 Cote Rotie has a deep ruby/purple color and a beautiful, intense bouquet of black olives, a touch of pain grille, cassis, cherries, and incense. The wine is medium to full-bodied, a classic display of Cote Rotie that will probably benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and last for 12-15 years.

Really loaded, with plenty of cocoa powder and dark toast up front, followed by mouthwatering acidity that drives the dark plum, Turkish coffee, cassis bush and licorice snap flavors through the long, grippy finish. Still has some toast to shed, so cellar. 580 cases made.

Dissappointing. Not bad, but I've had Cotes du Rhone at $15 that has delivered more...

Blackberry and smoke. Full bodied. Round texture. Long finish.

Nice, but has lost some fruit. Would be a nice partner to a good meal. Very balanced, very smooth. Not stunning.

Will age better than consensus based on history.

Tons of potential but the significant tannin tells me this needs cellar time. Darkly colored with smoky raspberry scents plus hints of minerals and game. Big, velvety fruit allayed to a tannic core. Great length and plenty of acid. Drinking this one now while doable is a waste. Great value for Cote Rotie. My score may be low.
