Dark purple. Hugely aromatic nose offers cherry, blackcurrant, cured tobacco, roasted coffee and licorice. Dense and weighty but fresh, with energetic red and dark fruit flavors, chewy texture and a wallop of vanilla on the back end. Combines depth, power and energy deftly, with superb finishing clarity and thrust. This won't let go of the palate.

Paul Hobbs' flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2005 Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard, exhibits a dense ruby/purple color in addition to aromas of graphite interwoven with blackberries, creme de cassis, licorice, and high-class cigar tobacco. The cooler vintage conditions have given this powerful, rich Cabernet definition, elegance, and a streamlined mouthfeel. This beauty will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age, and last for two decades or more.

This has wonderful purity of fruit. Rich, ripe, intense and elegant, with layers of spicy currant, wild berry, black cherry, anise and hazelnut shadings. Gains depth and length on the finish, which sails on.
