($50) Light gold. Racy, precise aromas of vibrant pear and apple skin underpinned by suave mineral tones. Deeply concentrated flavors of smoky peach and pear, exotic baking spices and cured meat. There's lots going on here. Finishes weighty and velvety but with excellent length and precision. This doesn't want to let go of the palate.

The 2005 Chardonnay River Block, produced from the old Wente and Hanzell clones, reveals scents of buttered citrus, crushed rocks, white currants, peaches, and tropical fruits. Full-bodied with zesty acidity (a characteristic of the vintage) as well as fabulous concentration and length, it can be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years.

Excellent color and nose. On the nose, quite a lot of butterscotch, with some jasmine and apricot thrown in for good measure. The mouth is super buttery - if you like fat buttery chardonnays this one could be for you! Like a fat buttery nectar... Great for a Memorial Day afternoon sitting outside reading...
