($76) Inky ruby color. Vibrant dark berry, violet, pepper and smoked meat aromas. Sweet, sappy and pliant, with a suave, creamy texture and deep blackberry and blackcurrant flavors complicated by floral pastille and black pepper. This could only be syrah. Finishes with excellent clarity, lift and length, with the sweet blackberry quality repeating. (JR)

The 2005 Syrah Eddie's Patch has really turned out beautifully since I tasted it a year ago. Huge color (opaque purple to the rim) with an extraordinary nose of frying bacon, roasted meats, licorice, tapenade, and blackberry, the wine is dense, full-bodied, broodingly backward, with super purity, and stunning length and richness. It is hard to know how this wine will age, but it is certainly a fabulous Syrah that should drink well for at least 5-8 years if not longer.

This riveting Syrah is rich, intense and focused, with tiers of flavor built around a generous core of spicy wild berry, black cherry, pepper and beef notes. The flavors weave together from start to finish, making this remarkably complex.
