(like the Tychson Hill bottling, this is 15.6% alcohol) Good deep ruby-red. Highly nuanced nose offers raspberry, violet, minerals, licorice, mocha, tobacco and flowers, plus a whiff of game. Large-scaled, fat and rich; a bit plumper and more oily in the middle than the Tychson Hill and Herb Lamb offerings but ultimately less nuanced. But this impressively sweet and sexy wine is a no-brainer for those who can find and afford it. Finishes broad and spicy, with very fine-grained tannins. This is mostly from vines planted in the late '80s in Madrona Vineyard.

Site Blog: Foodie Confidential Inky color with fruity nose. Dense and concentrated, almost like syrup. Black fruit and pepper. Hot. A lot of potential but needs cellaring another 5-10 years.

About This Producer

Ann Colgin, a former fine art dealer, began her label in 1992, and it quickly became one of the most sought-after names in Napa. Winemaking duties were originally handled by Helen Turley, then Mark Aubert in 1999. Production of the Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard is very small, with only about 350 cases produced each vintage. As with most of the world's truly great wines, Colgin's philosophy revolves around low yields and meticulous care of the fruit in the vineyard, winery and transportation between the two.
