($56) Good full red. Redcurrant, tobacco, melted chocolate, mint and spicy oak on the nose. Sweet and fresh, with youthfully reticent flavors of plum, mocha and sweet herbs. Finishes with big, dusty but ultimately fine tannins. Plenty of stuffing here but in need of a couple years of additional bottle aging.

About This Producer

Riding the crest of the Mayacamas Mountain Range at an elevation of 2,100 feet, Pride Mountain Vineyards' 200+ acre property is bisected by the Napa/Sonoma county line. The family owned winery has been making some of Spring Mountain's best wines since 1990. Winemaker Bob Foley employs the laborious technique of picking, vinifying, and barrel-aging each of 80 vineyard blocks separately, resulting in the most ideal ripeness levels and blend quality. This integration of vineyard practices and winemaking art is done purposefully. The goal is wines that are bold and fruitful, and that speak of their mountain lineage. Considered by Robert Parker to belong in "the top echelon of California's quality wineries," wines from Pride's gravelly mountaintop vineyards are consistently highly rated and are a staple component of any classic Napa collector's cellar.
